Who Is Your Super Hero?

Psalm 42:8

By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

photo on 6-11-19 at 10.52 amI mentioned this before and I mention again – here. I grew up reading comic books. I had many first editions and full series. I enjoyed the ones that were mild mannered people in day-to-day life but when trouble arose – they would become super heroes. One of my favorites was mild mannered Clark Kent becoming Superman. I wouldn’t miss an episode and even today try to catch the old TV show when I can. I enjoyed reading Superman comic books and watching the TV show (1952-1958) (I probably remember the reruns more than the original airings since I was born in 1955 – but maybe some lasting memories from those early years). By the way – my brother was a fan of Batman!

I must admit – I don’t watch much TV these days – other than some really old shows (like The Adventures of Superman and The Andy Griffith Show) – sports and the news (you can guess which news program I watch the most). Some of the shows I tape and try to watch are the ones about super heroes. I like the supernatural!

Today’s passage reminds me of the supernatural presence of God in my life. Psalm 42:8 – By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life. I guess it is just that phrase – by day the Lord. God is always at work in our lives. By day He is directing His love in us – through us – and in spite of us. And at night – we are singing songs to His glory and presence in our lives.

Is it just me – or has anyone else had days they marveled at how they got through them? I mean – taking a deep breath and declaring the power and presence of God in our lives! Our prayers and praise – our songs and tributes to God are an expression of our wonder at the power and presence of God in our lives.

I am a sinner – saved by grace! I am a sinner – battling the sinful desires of my sin nature – day by day – and yet God still blesses me and uses me. Anyone with me – even at times in spite of me? My heart’s desire is to walk faithfully with Jesus – day-by-day. The results aren’t always the way I desire them in the Lord! Yet – I sing His praises – night and day – because He allows me grace to cover my many sins – from my childhood through this moment (and beyond).

Don’t wait till you gather with others to worship God – worship God every evening – even every moment of every day! Seek His face and desire His grace! God is my super hero – I pray God is your’s as well. God is our everlasting! His presence is always with us! His love endures forever. For me – that takes supernatural powers!

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way!
