Day 38 of Lent 2020

Isaiah 42:1

“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.”

Ray 2020Today is day 38 of the 40 Days of Lent reading plan. I hope you have stayed with us – this is the final week – Holy Week. Today’s passage is the Servant of the Lord. As we remember the last week of Jesus’ earthly life – we remember how many Old Testament passages He fulfilled as the Lord’s anointed and servant.

Do you feel the Holy Spirit? Do you feel like you have been anointed by the Holy Spirit? As a servant of God – what roll does the Holy Spirit play in your life? I for one realize I couldn’t do what I do without the power and presence of the Holy Spirit – God with us today!

Lent is typically a time to give something up – to stop a bad habit – to deny self – to dig deeper into our walk with Jesus. Today we begin to look at some passages that will lead us to the cross and to the resurrection. Let us focus on Jesus this week – more than usual. Let us identify with the walk and the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us.

Here is today’s passage in partial context. Isaiah 42:1–4 – 1 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. 2 He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets. 3 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; 4 he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”

During this Lenten season – make it a point to seek after Jesus more and more. Seek after Him. Understand – as well as we can – His walk and His suffering. Remember what He gave up for us. God bless you as you walk with Jesus to the Cross of Calvary! Connect with our Lord on every level possible. Seek what God would have you (and me) understand about this most Holy Week. The Father put the Spirit on Jesus (the Holy Trinity) as He walked on this earth (remember how the Spirit descended like a dove as Jesus was baptized?). Has the Spirit descended on you? If so – how has the Holy Spirit blessed you?

Walk with me toward the cross. Deny yourself as I deny myself and let us draw near to Christ.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.

P.S. – This Sunday will be Easter. It is the easiest Sunday to get someone to attend worship with you. Since we cannot meet in our building – invite someone each day during Holy Week to join you for Sunday’s services on Zoom. We will have a Sunrise service at 6:30 am. We will also have a service at 10 am. You can share your Zoom info with a friend. We will lock each service about 10 minutes into the service as part of our security. Invite someone today to worship with us.

P.S.S. – Keep praying for our denomination. The General Conference  2021 – of the United Methodist Church – will postpone their meeting in May. No date for the conference has been set yet – but they are looking into 2021. The church is in need of our prayers.
