We Gotta Love One Another

John 16:33

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Rays HaircutI wish I had words or a solution for the hatred in the world. I wish there was a person or political party or nation that had the answers or even a good solution to work with moving forward. I wish our country could come together and rid ourselves of the hatred – the racism – the evil – in our country and in our world today. But I can’t and no one else can – it seems. Martin Luther King Jr. tried and he was killed for his efforts.

I’ve typed several blog posts about what we saw unfold on video before our eyes with the murder of George Floyd at the hands (knee) of Derek Chauvin – a former police officer that should have been weeded out long ago for his tactics and uncontrollable anger. I erased them all – because I have no idea how to deal with such hatred and evil.

Those who know me know I support law enforcement. I also know – I don’t know all that transpired before or during this incident – so anything I say is tainted by my ignorance. Having said that – I cannot sit in silence and not call out such hatred and evil – as we witnessed unfold on video.

I don’t have an answer for it all – but I do believe the answer might be found in telling more people about Jesus – and letting others see Jesus in us. I believe – if we were more excited and convinced of our faith – we would impact more people for Jesus.

I’m not suggesting that simply telling folks about Jesus would solve our issue with hatred and evil. Jesus said – John 15:18 – If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. Yet – in today’s passage – Jesus also said – John 16:33 – I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Evil will run rampant in our world – and all the more it seems as the world runs away from God. Evil will run rampant in our world – until Christ returns for His church – His bride. We can only hope to make an impact on those we can impact around us – drawing our children – our friends – and others – to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The early Christians believed this and faced a very corrupt and evil government and people in the Roman world. They strived to live out their faith – even when it meant being put to death for that faith by evil people.

I hurt inside for George Floyd’s family and friends. I hurt for my friends and family – as we face these uncertain times. I hurt when I hear of any killing or murder – any violence against one another. Racism is real – but hatred against anyone is a horrific sin. Hatred because of someone’s skin color – or one’s nationality – or one’s religious affiliation – or one’s sexual preference – or for any other reason is just not acceptable – yet – it will get worse as our world moves away from a loving God.

When will the evil end? Ultimately – only when Christ returns. Although Jesus has eternally overcome evil on the Cross of Calvary – Satan and his demons still run the earth until Christ returns to put them in the fiery pit – hell – for eternity. So – what can we do? We can love one another. Skin color – nationality – ethnicity – economic condition – political party – liberal or conservative – should not matter. We are called to love one another. Even loving the sinner and not the sin. We are not to condemn – we are not to judge – we are to love one another. Maybe – just maybe – if we loved more – we could reach some with evil intent or hatred in their hearts and turn them to Jesus and save our world from their destructive behavior.

Just a thought. Feel free to agree or disagree. I’ve had people jump on my thoughts before. I’m just about ready to give up on social media for anything more than a tool to reach the lost. I’m finished arguing on social media. It just instills more hatred – even among those who are supposed to be loving and tolerant. Let’s try loving one another! Nothing else seems to be working!

Jesus says He has overcome the world in today’s passage. He did it with love – not with an army or some other earthly power. Jesus wins in the end – but – He can win here and now if we turn our hearts to Him. Let’s try loving one another! Who is with me? We gotta love one another – now more than any time before!

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.

  1. I fully agree
Each person has an obligation to control their thoughts and actions
and do so according to God’s instructions.
Each of us must be a positive model for others, and not accept negativity
    toward others.
Hatred of all types will destroy our country.
All people have value and deserve respect, and if each person followed God’s
expectations we would not have these issues
    Pray for our country.
