Let’s Study the Holy Spirit

Genesis 1:2

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Question – why would some in the church want to know all they can about God the Father and God the Son – while shying away from knowing more about God the Holy Spirit?  I plan a sermon series on the Holy Spirit soon and want to teach about the Holy Spirit in this space as well.

The real question is “How does a Christian in practical terms SUBMIT to the leading of the Holy Spirit in their lives day by day”?

Let’s Begin to Study the Holy Spirit Together

Genesis 1:2

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

The Holy Spirit – the third person of the Trinity – was from the beginning!  In the second verse of the Bible – the Holy Spirit is introduced to us – the Spirit of God.

Question – why would some in the church want to know all they can about God the Father and God the Son – while shying away from knowing more about God the Holy Spirit?  I want to use this space in the days and weeks to come to study the Holy Spirit – I hope you join me!

A member wrote me the following when asked to comment on the devotional thought from Monday:  You’ve already heard me say that the person and the work of the Holy Spirit is one of the least taught, yet most needed topics in the Christian church today!!! . . . The real question is “How does a Christian in practical terms SUBMIT to the leading of the Holy Spirit in their lives day by day”?

Again – this is a topic we will try to deal with in the days and weeks to come – in this space.

In the Old Testament – the Holy Spirit was placed on individuals – select individuals – to accomplish God’s tasks.  Here is a passage that speaks about the Holy Spirit being placed on a young man – David (who would later be king).

1 Samuel 16:13 – So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah.

The Holy Spirit had been upon Saul – but left him and was bestowed upon David – as the anointed of God – God’s leader.  The Holy Spirit was a sign to the people that this was the chosen of God.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
