A Gentle Answer Turns Away Wrath

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

June 2019Often – we can tell by the tone of a person’s voice if they are upset or not? Maybe – we can tell if they are upset by the words or phases they use? Maybe we can tell someone is upset by his or her body language. How do we feel when someone is upset with us? How does it impact us? Does it help or hinder our relationship with them? Does it impact our ability to communicate with them? How does it make us feel?

I bet most of us would rather deal with people when they are not angry or upset. I know I would – for sure. I bet others would rather deal with us when we are not angry. But how do we control our anger or the anger of others? How do we keep situations calm and under control? It is not easy for sure. Continue reading

Who Guides Our Thoughts and Actions?

Galatians 5:25

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

fullsizeoutput_ffeWho guides our thoughts and actions each day? Do we rely on our own abilities or thinking? Do we follow other’s thinking or even consult a horoscope (please don’t say yes to a horoscope)? How do we determine things like – who we vote for in elections – how we vote in our congregations or denomination – whether to marry or not and to whom? Who do we turn to when discussing starting a family – what job to take – whether to relocate for work – when to retire – whether to buy or rent and in what community? All important decisions for sure. Do we rely on our skills – on our spouse – on our parents – on our friends – on the world around us?

Who guides our thoughts and actions each day? How do we decide what is right or wrong – what is beneficial or detrimental in our lives? Where do we turn to discern the path in life we should walk? If it hasn’t been God – if it has only been God for a few things – how’s that working for you? I know for me – the times I have made my own decision – it has been hit or miss – but when I have turned to God – God is batting 100%. Continue reading

Carry Each Other’s Burdens

Galatians 6:2

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

RayMcDCarry each other’s burdens. Like some – I work better with someone working along side of me rather than working alone. I know folks that work well alone – but I like having someone there with me – even if just for company. I’ve encouraged my wife at times to simply be in the yard with me while working to have someone there. I can work alone – but I work better with someone there to talk to and bounce ideas off of.

Carry each other’s burdens. I wonder how many of us have had issues in life (almost all of us I imagine). I can also imagine that often having someone help us through the difficult time was appreciated. Whether is was a loan at just the right time – a word of advice – a shoulder to lean on – a prayer said at just the right time – a kind word of encouragement – or simply just being there.
