Thoughts and Reflections

We Are All A Part Of The Whole

1 Corinthians 12:27

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

When I was in school – grade school – Junior & Senior High – I was in the school band. I played trumpet (or in some of our music it was called a cornet). In High School I played in the Orchestra – the Pep Band – the Concert Band and the Marching Band. These bands were a conglomeration of different persons with different talents. When the director got us all on the same page and the same beat – we made some pretty good music. We won awards even for some of our efforts.

The same can be said about the sport teams I played on in High School. A group of different people – working toward a common goal – and we had a measure of success. I’m sure if you’ve been on any team or group – you may have experienced the same.

Churches are like this as well. Churches are made up of a collection of different people trying to make great music together – trying to achieve goals together. Continue reading

Gifting of the Church – Part V

Ephesians 4:11-16

11 It was he (Christ) who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

RayMcDThis is the fifth and final part of this series. Today we will review verse 16 and conclude this brief study about the gifting of the church.

The gifting of the church is essential to mature us and to draw folks together. It is also part of what unifies the Body. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

When I recover from my surgery I plan to get back to the gym and to basketball (and of course golf). I know that there will be lots of sore muscles and aches and pains. Hot showers and I will be good friends. My muscles and ligaments and joints are going to be taxed and I hope – growing – and getting stronger. It will be about 3 months between my last time in the gym and when I get back. As I lose weight and start to get in better shape (I know round is a shape – I said so in a message – but not a desired shape) the aches and pains will get less and sleep will returned – lol. The Deep Snow Is Coming!

1 John 2:6

Whoever claims to live in him (Jesus) must walk as Jesus did.

112015 Ray McDonaldWhat paths do we walk each day?  Do we even determine our path or is it pre-determined for us?  What journey are we on these days?  I will go back to an old devotional and remind us to be in the Word each and every day.  It is in the Word of God that we will find the path that Jesus walked and thus the path that we should walk.  John writes in his Epistle – 1 John 2:6 – Whoever claims to live in him (Jesus) must walk as Jesus did.

In another devotional from yesterday – I wrote about walking in the light – how the light came into the world to shine in the darkness.  In order to walk in darkness of the world – we need the light to shine on our path – the direction in which we walk.  But once the light is shining we need to know which path to take – because there is often more than one path to choose.  Godly discernment is so very important and we can find it through reading the Word of God.
