God’s Word Is Truth
1 John 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
When we are trying to determine Godly values or true Biblical core doctrines – we need to refer to the Scriptures. We need to have Scripture as our base. Truth can be found in God’s Holy Word. God’s Word is truth.
The Wesleyan quadrilateral reminds us that Scripture is primary and we are to use tradition – reason – and experience to help us understand Scripture. We hold this belief because we believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Even though Paul may have understood this in his context to mean the Old Testament – orthodox opinion is that this passage was meant for the entire Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 – 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Wipe Every Tear From Their Eyes
Revelation 21:4
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
If you know me – you know that I am an emotional person. Growing up I found out early that I was an emotional person. It didn’t take much to make me cry. It also didn’t take much to make me angry. I could get hot in a second – but thankfully – I could also release my emotions and level off quickly.
As I aged – I grew to control my anger – most times – but my tears came to flow more freely it seems. I remember my maternal grandmother passing and how I cried at the family viewing time. My cousin – same age – laughed at me for crying and his father took him by the scruff of the neck out of the room. He came back in and told me – look – I’m crying too. I guess it takes more to make some cry than others – lol. Continue reading
