Love More And Have A Better Attitude

Romans 15:5

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had…

I’ve written a number of posts over the years about attitude. I believe attitude is so very important – possibly essential in our Christian walk. One of my favorite sayings has to do with attitude and Christianity. It goes like this – Christianity boils down to attitude – the condition and position of one’s heart. But how do we improve our attitude toward someone – especially someone who has hurt us or who is unlikeable?

Our love for one another and our love for God – has a lot to do with our attitude. The Bible says that if we don’t have love then we have nothing – and we are nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2 – If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. Having and expressing love – Christ-like love – is at the core of our faith. Loving One Another

John 13:34-35

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

profileThis is Monday’s devotional but I am sending it to my congregation via e-mail on Friday so that they have time to think about it before Sunday.  Sunday we’re going to be preaching on David: A Man after God’s Own Heart.  We’re going to talk some about our worship and our witness and what might hinder these.

A committee (I know – that is a bad word for some) met last night (Thursday) and talked about ways of connecting our congregation – current attendees and visitors.  We talked about a number of ways to bring this about.  I know last Monday another committee (there’s that bad word again) met to talk about ways to share in fellowship together as a congregation.  On Tuesday morning in a Bible Study I attend we talked about ways to let folks know we’re glad they attended worship with us and to let those who have missed a few Sundays know that we miss them.  A clergy meeting I attended this week talked about this same subject – connecting the folks in the congregation and ministering to the body. Christians Will Be Known By Their Love

John 13:35

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

profileLove is a word that is often misused and overused in some ways and not used enough in the right ways.  Men and women often used this phrase without knowing what it means – thinking of it as an emotion or a means to an end.

Sometimes a person will tell another person that he/she loves her/him for ulterior motives – they wants something in return and think this word is the key that unlocks the door to what they want.  Sometimes a person will say I love you because it seems to be appropriate thing to say or it seems desired by the other person.  I love you gets tossed around so much – and often we end up saying it to so many people – that its meaning often is diluted in our minds and in our lives.  Think for a moment about how many people you’ve used the phrase I love you and meant it in the dating/relationship way.
