Thoughts and Reflections

AC2018

2 Timothy 4:2-4 (NIV84)

Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

I’m attending Annual Conference 2018 this week – Wednesday thru Friday. We’re meeting in Baltimore – Maryland. Last night we went till well after 11 pm. We were in Clergy Executive Session voting on candidates for ordained ministry. There were some serious issues that arose. I will share more on this later – since we were instructed to wait for official publications to announce the results of our votes.

At our Annual Conference and at the Specially called General Conference in 2019 – some serious issues will be discussed that will help to shape us as a denomination – as a people of faith. Some will be unhappy with the votes taken and decisions made. What we need to remember is that we should not be seeking our will – but rather God’s will in all that is before us. God Is Not Hiding!

Proverbs 8:17

IMG_0301I’m starting this post before heading to Annual Conference.  I’m setting it up so that I can complete it later – maybe with my iPad at Conference. My prayer yesterday was that we would seek after God – that we would seek first after His kingdom.  I will be reporting on what I see this week in this blog.

God says in Proverbs 8:17 – I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.  In other words – the UMC should be able to find God if we are looking for God – because God is not hiding!  If we love God and seek after God – God should be found and should be a blessing to us.  We’ll see how it goes.

I know that no two people see things the same – some of my evangelical sisters and brothers have differing views.  But we should be able to agree on the fundamental things of the faith (yet at times we don’t).  My hope is that #BWCUMC2015 will be a unifying event in the life of the church. That General Conference 2016 will be as well.  I’m praying for Gethsemane Moments all around for the church this week and in the year to come.
