So What Is Next After the Special General Conference?

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

The Special General Conference (#SGC2019) has been a difficult situation for many of us – maybe even all of us. I didn’t post a devotional thought yesterday – because I was so blown away by the conference and the social media storm surrounding it. So many were hurt – people I care about – and so many were not voicing their thoughts well. The love seemed to have left the room (and on social media). I couldn’t wrap my head around what to post. That rarely happens – but it happened yesterday. I did post a couple of scriptures but couldn’t wrap my head around what else to share. I love all people – and I hurt when people hurt.

Today (Tuesday) – as I write this devotional thought for Wednesday – I am still at a loss. Sisters and brothers – colleagues of mine and others – people that I love – are at odds over the issues that were presented and voted on at the #SGC2019. The future of our denomination is uncertain. Churches and many people are confused – and many are hurt. The Traditional Plan was approved at #SGC2019. The One Church Plan was voted down. For some – this is what they wanted. For others – not so much. Continue reading

Doing Everything To God’s Glory

 Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I remember when our twins were little ones – it seems like just a few years ago. One of the things they loved to do was watch a show called – Colby’s Clubhouse. One of my fond memories is watching the twins – as toddlers – dancing and singing to the songs on Colby’s Clubhouse. One particular was a song sung about today’s passage.

Here is a very bad copy of the video of the song. Imagine two toddlers dancing in front of their TV singing (or trying to) and giggling as the young people on the TV screen went through their moves. They loved this show and watched it almost daily.

The children learned scripture and they learned music and faith and how to treat one another. We had the show on video tape and they played it over and over. Even today they could probably sing some of the songs and do the dance moves. Continue reading

Labor As Unto The Lord!

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

RayMcDToday is Labor Day – the day we celebrate the labor force in America – by giving most everyone the day off. As we look around our congregation – we can see the numerous harvest fields God has given us – even within the confines of our own members.

How many of our readers have been to sporting events? FedEx Field? Camden Yards? If we have attended sporting events – especially professional sports – I assume we have also seen players praying on the field – or motioning toward heaven after making a play.  Some Christians – like the Raven’s Matt Stover – point toward heaven – toward God – whether he makes the right play or not – giving God credit for all he does and for the talent to compete at such a high level (he is the best kicker in the NFL IMHO). Just Do It!

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

profileCan you believe that we are in the middle of January already?  It seemed like 2014 just started and we’re already facing the 13th of the month.  Time really does fly the older you get!  I use to doubt that statement but now I know it to be true.  Where has all the time gone?  I did a funeral for a dear friend recently and saw some folks I haven’t seen in some time and I must say – we have aged!  I went to my 40th High School reunion and I must say – we have changed.  I say we to be nice but of course I haven’t changed any. LOL Just those other old folks (just kidding of course). Continue reading

Do Everything as Unto the Lord!

Colossians 3:17

17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Monday was Labor Day – the day we celebrate the labor force in America – by giving most everyone the day off.  Sunday we named the many careers and places that God has placed those in attendance – our own harvest fields.

It is early Tuesday morning.  I just returned from FedEx field – watching an awesome football game between Virginia Tech and Boise State.  You’ve seen sporting events before I would imagine.  If you have – I assume you have also seen players praying on the field – or motioning toward heaven after making a play.  Strong Christians like Matt Stover point toward heaven – toward God – whether he makes the right play or not – giving God created for all he does and for the talent to compete at such a high level (he is a kicker in the NFL).

With all of these thoughts running through my mind yesterday – I thought of this passage of Scripture – whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Think about it!  If everything we did we had the mindset that we were doing as unto the Lord – wouldn’t that cause us to give our best at everything?  Some of us might give our best all the time – but many slack when they think they can get away with it.  Some people speed and run through red lights when they think they can get away with it.  Some people come to work late and some leave early when they think they can get away with it.  Some people will take things home from work – some will cheat on tests at school – some will give less than their best effort when they think no one is watching.  Do you get the point?

Try for one week – doing everything you do – everything you speak – as unto the Lord – as if you were working for Jesus!  After the week – I would love to hear your experience with this mindset.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
