Who Guides Our Thoughts and Actions?

Galatians 5:25

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

fullsizeoutput_ffeWho guides our thoughts and actions each day? Do we rely on our own abilities or thinking? Do we follow other’s thinking or even consult a horoscope (please don’t say yes to a horoscope)? How do we determine things like – who we vote for in elections – how we vote in our congregations or denomination – whether to marry or not and to whom? Who do we turn to when discussing starting a family – what job to take – whether to relocate for work – when to retire – whether to buy or rent and in what community? All important decisions for sure. Do we rely on our skills – on our spouse – on our parents – on our friends – on the world around us?

Who guides our thoughts and actions each day? How do we decide what is right or wrong – what is beneficial or detrimental in our lives? Where do we turn to discern the path in life we should walk? If it hasn’t been God – if it has only been God for a few things – how’s that working for you? I know for me – the times I have made my own decision – it has been hit or miss – but when I have turned to God – God is batting 100%. Continue reading

Our Gethsemane Moments

Matthew 26:39

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

IMG_0301We make decisions everyday! Some are very basic – like do we get up when the alarm goes off or do we hit the snooze button? We might debate with ourselves whether to get up a little early to do some exercise or spend more time doing our devotions?

We make decisions everyday! I know some young people who are making decisions right now about what school to attend when they graduate High School. Some visit different schools to see if it feels right for them. Some will make the decision according to their major or at times – according to their financial situation. Some will make the decision to stay close to home – some will want to get as far away from home as possible.

We make decisions everyday! Some decisions are related to work and some are related to family. Some are personal – some are professional. Even deciding what to have for lunch is a decision. Continue reading
