It Is All About Relationships

1 Peter 3:9

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

It is all about relationships! The older I get – the more years I have been in ministry (42 full years this summer) – the more life I live – the more I am convinced it is all about relationships.

It is all about relationships! Our relationship with Jesus is not about the dos and don’ts. It is not about how often we attend worship. It is not about what we give to the church. It is not about how often we sin or how little we sin. All of these are measurable things for sure and Christians will strive to lessen sin in their lives. Christians will attend worship – as often as possible – to be in the fellowship of other believers and to praise God (and worship is not just done in the Sanctuary on Sundays). Christians are called to tithe and give even more to the poor and the needy.

It is all about relationships! Our relationship with Jesus is just that – it is about our relationship. Our prayer life is our lifeline – our communication with God. Our devotional life is the foundation of our relationship with Jesus. How much time we spend – and the quality of that time is so important. Continue reading

Let’s Keep Our Eyes On God!

Psalm 77:12

I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

112015 Ray McDonaldSo – how’s your Prayer/Fast going? Leave a comment or two!  Mine has had ups and downs.  I’m doing well with the fast from sodas.  I’m spending more time with Jesus.  My devotional life is going well – but I’m still battling some things.  I keep praying about them and I encourage you to lift me in your prayers!

I mentioned my father-in-law and my father in a recent post and thought I would again – it just seemed appropriate. In today’s passage – the author informs us – that he considers all of God’s works and meditates on all of God’s deeds. I often remember the things my father and father-in-law did in their lives and taught me. Is there someone in your life – whose teachings and deeds you remember?  I pray there is!  If not – maybe you can be that someone for someone else!

Today’s lesson is from a Psalm that begins with the following two verses. Psalm 77:1–2 – I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. 2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. Continue reading

Making a Plan

Acts 20:24

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.

112015 Ray McDonaldMuch is said at this time of the year about staying physically fit – making New Year’s resolutions.  Gym memberships are pushed – as are diets – and exercise equipment.  Many have made New Year’s resolutions concerning their physical shape.  But what about our spiritual shape?

Do we have an ideal weight for our physical body?  Are we taking steps to reach that ideal weight?  Are we exercising – dieting – working to draw closer to that ideal?

Are there things we would like to be able to do in the physical world?  Would we like to run a marathon?  Would we like to ride in a 100-mile bike ride?  Would we like to hike up a mountain?  If so – folks would usually work up to such an event. Continue reading
