Love More And Have A Better Attitude

Romans 15:5

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had…

I’ve written a number of posts over the years about attitude. I believe attitude is so very important – possibly essential in our Christian walk. One of my favorite sayings has to do with attitude and Christianity. It goes like this – Christianity boils down to attitude – the condition and position of one’s heart. But how do we improve our attitude toward someone – especially someone who has hurt us or who is unlikeable?

Our love for one another and our love for God – has a lot to do with our attitude. The Bible says that if we don’t have love then we have nothing – and we are nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2 – If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. Having and expressing love – Christ-like love – is at the core of our faith. Follow God’s Example

Ephesians 5:1-2

1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Yesterday in the sermon I asked the question – Do we really know Jesus? I reminded us that to really know Jesus is to reflect Jesus to a lost world. People should be able to see Jesus in us and through us. Our lives should reflect Jesus. We are called to be His ambassadors.

Reflecting Jesus is not easy – but it is what we are called to do. We tend to find it easier to represent our school or our state or our favorite team – than represent Jesus. We are less bashful to represent our favorite candidate for president (except maybe last election) than we are to represent Jesus. Continue reading

Following God’s Example

Ephesians 5:1-2

1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

So who stands out in our lives as an example we follow? As a child and a youth – I had favorite ballplayers I followed. Boog Powell – Brooks Robinson – Frank Robinson – were players I liked in my youth. They played for my home team Baltimore Orioles. Eddie Murray – Cal Ripken – and others were baseball players I followed later in my life. In basketball some of my favorites were Wes Unseld – Earl “the Pearl” Monroe and Walt Frazier (from the Baltimore Bullets). In football I liked Johnny Unitas – Raymond Berry – Tom Matte. They were football players – Baltimore Colts – that I followed.

In school I had my favorite teachers – did you? I had my favorite singing groups I followed as well like James Taylor – Cat Stevens – Stevie Wonder – 3 Dog Night – Diana Ross and the Supremes and more. I had men and women who I looked up to in church and in other circles. I looked up to my dad the most. Continue reading

The Deep Snow Is Coming!

1 John 2:6

Whoever claims to live in him (Jesus) must walk as Jesus did.

112015 Ray McDonaldWhat paths do we walk each day?  Do we even determine our path or is it pre-determined for us?  What journey are we on these days?  I will go back to an old devotional and remind us to be in the Word each and every day.  It is in the Word of God that we will find the path that Jesus walked and thus the path that we should walk.  John writes in his Epistle – 1 John 2:6 – Whoever claims to live in him (Jesus) must walk as Jesus did.

In another devotional from yesterday – I wrote about walking in the light – how the light came into the world to shine in the darkness.  In order to walk in darkness of the world – we need the light to shine on our path – the direction in which we walk.  But once the light is shining we need to know which path to take – because there is often more than one path to choose.  Godly discernment is so very important and we can find it through reading the Word of God. The Fruits of the Spirit – Love

Galatians 5:22-26

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

82015 RayOver the next few days we will examine the Fruits of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5. We’ve written a lot about attitude over the years.  Our love quotient goes a long way toward having the right attitude my friends.

The first fruit listed is love.  Love is THE most important of the fruits – because without love we could have all the rest – all of the fruits and gifts of the Spirit – and something would still be missing.

1 Corinthians 13:2 – If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

We are called to imitate Christ and the love He showed us.

Ephesians 5:1-2 – 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Continue reading
