Thoughts and Reflections

God Has A Plan For Each Of Us!

Philippians 1:6

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Thanks to all who responded to yesterday’s first devotional thought – since coming back from my staycation. I felt like something was missing from my daily walk with Jesus without writing them and I’m glad to be back. I’m also glad that they help some in their walk with Jesus.

There are so many thoughts running thru my head these days. Father’s Day has become hard for me – with the passing a number of years ago of my earthly father. Mother’s Day too with the passing of my mother. I have so many memories of my mom and dad. Days like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day bring them to the forefront. Tears ran down my cheeks often this weekend.

So – in the last few weeks – I have celebrated to life of a couple of 80+ individuals – a 90+ individual – and a 24 and 30-year-old. Life is not guaranteed – for any number of years. We never know when our life will end. What we do know is we have the here and now and need to use each moment to draw near to God and to serve Him. Continue reading

Fathers, Do Not Exasperate Your Children

Ephesians 6:4

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

112015 Ray McDonaldAs a father – I had a hand in rearing our three daughters and many of their friends too. As much as I can I hope to have a hand in rearing my grandchildren as well.  Although our children’s mother had the biggest hand in their upbringing – I played a part in it – and because our children were very social and loved their home and parents – we were honored to be part of many of their friend’s lives too.  It was a blessing to see so many of their friends in and out of our home.  We felt like parents to a large family at times.

Some of their friends attended our church. Some were on the same teams that we coached. Some were simply friends that hung out at our home from time to time. In each case – God gave us an opportunity to touch their lives – to speak into their lives and into their spirits. I pray that we took correct advantage of each opportunity. I know Carolyn and I would be there for any of our children’s friends – when and if we were called upon – and a number of times we have been called upon.  I have been blessed to help celebrate some of their weddings. Our Father (Heavenly) Is Watching Over Us

Psalm 121:3

He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber;

RevRayIf you haven’t heard the news – I have two granddaughters (see the picture below).  They are both under one year old and I have actually watched one solo for several hours already (her parents must have been desperate for a night out!).  Before we go any further I want you to know everything went well!

Technology is so great these days – when I watched my one granddaughter solo – her parents had a camera that allowed me to watch my granddaughter in her crib when she slept (get this I fed her – changed her – and put her down for her evening sleep that evening!).  I could watch her with the camera and monitor without disturbing her – instead of peeking into the room every 45 seconds.  I wish we had those when our children were babies.
