Working As Unto The Lord!

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

Life ChangeOK – most everyone is back to work today. January 2nd and a Wednesday – and the work force in America – except the portion of the government shutdown because the President and Congress can’t agree – is back to work. Even if you are retired – you’re probably back to your normal routine today. Our office will open at 9 am after being shut down since December 20th. Of course – a number of the staff at church – including me – has worked since the 20th – but not at the office. I only put in about 60 hours Christmas week – so it was a light load.

So – think for a moment about the new year and your work. Are you a teacher? Do you work in an office? Do you work for the government? Are you in law enforcement or the military? Are you in sales? Are you in the medical field? Do you work for a non-profit? Wherever you work – do you work as unto the Lord or do you work for a paycheck (and only do what is required)? Continue reading

At Times…

Philippians 1:21

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

fullsizeoutput_ffeAs you read this devotional thought today – I have a question. Does anyone daydream? Does anyone think about things in the future or in the abstract or in the future? Am I the only one who thinks about the past – the present – and the future – all in the same day? My mind wonders all around at times. Staying focus on the here and now is not always easy.

Are there things you wish you could change about your life? I think about this at times. I think about the choices I’ve made in the past and how my life would be different had I made other choices. At times – my life would be better – I imagine. At times – my life would be worse – I imagine. I try to live in the here and now – but often my mind wonders about the time spectrum of life. Witnessing Our Faith

1 Timothy 4:12

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

Today I wanted to write about setting an witnessing our faith. Witnessing our faith is not about the words we say but the life we live. Actions often speak louder than words – you’ve heard that before – right?

Timothy was a young pastor – a product of Paul’s ministry. Paul was writing to him and those Timothy was leading to give him encouragement and teaching. Part of what Paul wrote we are using as our base passage in this morning’s devotional.

As Paul was telling Timothy to not let anyone look down on you because you are young – he also encouraged him to be a good witness. Think about these words for a moment this morning – set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. How do these words speak to us this morning? God Calls Us By Name

Romans 9:28

God doesn’t count us; he calls us by name. Arithmetic is not his focus. The Message

profileToday’s devotional thought is an observation based on nearly 40 years of ministry.  I hope it makes sense to our readers.  It is based on Scripture but has some personal opinion/experience in it.

Jenna Ryan – after giving her testimony at a recent revival – reminded the congregation that in the end it is about relationships.  As we give and hear testimonies – we are telling and hearing parts of our story and the stories of others.  The more we tell and hear our story and the stories of others – the more we are known and get to know others.  By the way – happy 22nd birthday Jenna!  May this year be the best yet in your spiritual growth and as you and Shaun marry!
