Meeting God Face-To-Face

Exodus 33:22

When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.

I personally met several ball players over the years. I’ll name a few – and some of our younger readers might not know some of them – Johnny Unitas – Jim Palmer – Boog Powell – Eddie Murray (I remember him standing in the rain to give me an autograph) – Brooks Robinson – Harmon Killebrew – Frank Howard – Raymond Berry – Frank Robinson – Wes Unseld – Earl Monroe – Paul Blair – Don Buford – Al Bumbry – Justin Tucker – Matt Stover – and others. I once refereed a basketball game at old Andover High School where the visiting team was made up of Oriole ball players and others. I remember giving a technical foul before the game began – to Al Bumbry – for dunking in warmups – yes – I was a sticker for the rules back in the day.

Have you ever met someone that put you into awe mode? Maybe – with how close we are to Washington – you have met some politicians – like Presidents or others. Maybe – some of my friends who work with FCA have met some current players. I know I attended a dinner recently and met Coach Harbaugh along with some players. Continue reading

What Does It Cost Us To Follow Christ?

Philippians 3:8

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ

What does it cost us to follow Christ? I wonder – have we ever thought about this question? Have we ever spent time really thinking about the cost of following Christ?

What does it cost us to follow Christ? Most things in life cost us something. In our home (mostly me) – we estimate something’s worth to us by what it would cost us to get it. If we want to buy something – I might estimate how many hours we would need to work for it. We would then determine if it was really worth it and if we really wanted it that badly.

What does it cost us to follow Christ? This week or soon – the Baltimore Orioles will begin to dismantle this year’s team and begin working on the team of the future. At some point – a team will determine what it will cost them to purchase 3-4 months (counting the playoffs) of one of the top 2-3 players in baseball and some of his teammates. The Orioles will need to do the same as they figure out what the best offer is moving the team forward. Will it be the needed players or draft picks. What will it cost to improve a playoff team and what will it cost to rebuild a once proud team? Continue reading

Being Amazed!

Mark 4:41

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

I’ve been amazed a few times in my life. The first time was when I realized that Jesus loved me enough to die for me and to cover my sins. That just amazed me because I’m not worthy of such love.

Another time had to do with amazing love as well. It was when my wife said she would marry me. I was so amazed that a woman of her qualities would marry a man like me and – after 37 years – still stayed married to me.

Another time I was amazed was when my three daughters were born. To watch them come into the world and know that Carolyn and I had just given birth to three amazing girls – now that was amazing.

Another time I was amazed in my life was when Eddie Murray stood out in the rain in his expensive leather jacket to sign an autograph for me at old Memorial Stadium (after a game was canceled because of the rain). Continue reading

With All My Heart

Psalm 138:1

I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing your praise.

112015 Ray McDonaldWhat do we do with all our heart?  What gets all of our attention?  What is it that takes first place in our thinking – above all other things? What is it that totally focus on in our lives?

I know some sports fanatics (fans) who support their teams with all their heart.  They paint their vehicles with their favorite team’s colors.  They wear team jerseys – jackets – hats – and more.  They don’t miss a game.  They talk about the game all week before their team plays and all week afterward – to anyone who will listen and even some who won’t (if they had a chance).  I love watching my Orioles – Ravens – and Wizards – play ball.  Some of my Facebook friends also seem to enjoy watching the Capitals (hockey) – and they seem to have a good shot this year to play in the post season.  My favorite teams have high draft picks this year (which means they didn’t play too well this past year.  There have been a number of years of late – say for the Ravens – that they have picked late in the first round because they won the Super Bowl or made it into the playoffs. I Will Praise You With Everything!

I know some sports fanatics (fans) who support their teams with all their heart.  They paint their vehicles with their favorite team’s colors.  They wear team clothing – all the time.  They don’t miss a game – either in person or on TV.  They talk about the game all week before their team plays and all week afterward – to anyone who will listen and even some who won’t (if they have a chance).  I just finished watching the Orioles play another game – they aren’t doing great this year – but – they are my team. The Wizards are in the playoffs as are the Capitals – it is exciting around here. The NFL draft just finished and the Ravens had a number of needs – and picked up some amazing players.
