Gods of Gold

Exodus 32:31

So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold.”

profileJesus said the greatest commandment was – Mark 12:30 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  But do we?  I mean – do we love God with everything we have and everything we are?  If we were honest – as much as we might like to love God with our all – we tend to love other things more than God at times.

Whenever we sin we have – for at least that moment – loved something more than we love God.  What is it that we love?  We love self-pleasure.  We look out for number one far too often.  We love ourselves far more than we should for sure. Continue reading

Seek His Face and Desire His Grace

1 Chronicles 16:11

Study God and his strength, seek his presence day and night; The Message

profileHere we sit – facing another government shutdown.  A number of my friends and a number of the folks I know are being furloughed without pay.  Not sure how long some of them will be able to go without a paycheck.  Some folks don’t have a savings – for a variety of reasons – some beyond their control and some by their own decisions.  Either way – it may be a tough fall if the shutdown lasts for any length of time for sure.

Where will we find help?  We could spend this time debating politics and blaming first one side of the debate and than the other side.  We could blame the President and then all the Presidents men and women.  There surely is enough blame to go around.  What I’d like for us to do is realize that things are going to go from bad to worse as the age rolls along.  There will be wars and rumors of wars.  There will be corrupt governments and corrupt people.  The world is headed down a road toward total destruction – if and only if God doesn’t intervene. When We Come to Our Senses

Luke 15:17

When he came to his senses

RevRayWhen I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around.  But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.  ~Mark Twain

Not having dad around to go to for sound advice has been a major change in my life these past few months.  Even as his body was giving up these last few years his mind was still sharp and I would still go to him for his thoughts – ministry wise and personally.

My children are 30 and the twins are 25 and our relationship has improved over the last few years (not that it was ever bad – it has just gotten better).  Not sure if they have learned to tolerate their father better – if I have gain wisdom in their eyes – of they have gained wisdom in my eyes.
