Delivered From All Our Fears

Psalm 34:4

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

RayMcDWhat is it we are afraid of today? Some have expressed a real fear over the Zika Virus – and it is a scary thing for sure – especially for women who wish to bare children or are pregnant now. The Zika Virus has arrived on the shores of the USA most recently. The virus has come to the USA as infected mosquitos on U.S. soil have bitten some people. The medical community is telling us that it is doing all it can to combat this virus. Fear still runs rampant among some in our southern states – and maybe for good reason.

What is it we are afraid of today? The economy shows some signs of recovery while the number of people out of work seems to be increasing. People are wondering when they should pull their money out of the stock market as some say a crash is near. No one really knows. Being able to pay our bills – especially in retirement – is a real concern for some. Continue reading

2016 Presidential Election

Philippians 2:2

then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Photo on 7-6-16 at 3.42 PMLast night at the DNC Hillary Clinton was chosen as the Democratic nominee for President. According to posts by our new Bishop – and others – a historic event for sure. Donald Trump was chosen as the Republican nominee a couple of weeks ago. Darrell Castle is running from the Constitution Party of the U.S. Jill Stein is running from the Green Party. Gary Johnson is running from the Libertarian Party. There are others on some state ballots.

My hope is that each person running for President will refrain from negative advertising. I won’t hold my breath. Both of the major party candidates have already done a lot of mud slinging.

What I would like to hear are the plans of each candidate – if elected – to work on issues like the economy – national security – immigration – the Supreme Court – race relations – entitlement programs – the environment – and more. I’d much rather hear their agenda moving forward than to listen to them cutting down their counterparts. Continue reading

Loving Others and Living By Grace

Hebrews 13:9

Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so.

Photo on 7-6-16 at 3.42 PMFacebook and other social media outlets broke loose these last few days as the decision of the FBI came out to not file charges against Hillary Clinton. Some were delighted and some were horrified. Some thought it was a lot to do about nothing and some thought the rich and powerful got away with breaking the law again. Donald Trump believes the system is rigged – to use his terms. People typically sided with their political party on this issue – but not always.

When General Conference of the United Methodist Church took place this spring – social media was abuzz with all sorts of comments. A subject that hit the social media circuit was same-sex relationships. There were those supporting it as normal and those seeing it as sinful. Comments ranged from support for their view to demonization of those who saw things differently (from both sides).

I recently tweeted the following on my twitter page (https://twitter.com/RayMcDonald) – Praying tonight for God to open my eyes to some needed wisdom and truth. After 61+ years of life, I still have so many unanswered questions. A friend asked me what I was searching for and I told him wisdom and truth – lol. We got further and one of the things I’m searching for is how to deal with issues without being divisive. I’m searching for ways to stand for what I believe is Biblical without offending those who disagree with me. I wonder if there is a way to do this? Continue reading
