For The Time Will Come…

2 Timothy 4:3

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.

Life ChangeHave you ever been warned about something that was pending – something that was going to happen in the future? I had a teacher who would often say – mark my word – and then tell us something that was going to happen – like – mark my word – this will be on the next test.

Maybe as a parent you have said something like this – or your parents did – mark my word – if you do that again – you will get punished. Maybe it was like this – if you don’t stop fighting – if you make me get out of my chair – if you don’t get up now – if you don’t eat all your food – than “whatever” was going to happen – mark my word.

Paul gives us warning in today’s passage – 2 Timothy 4:3 – For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. He could have added – mark my word. Continue reading

Seeing Clearly Is Important

Hebrews 1:3

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Seeing clearly is important. I’m understanding – that the older we get – the more light we need to see. For instance – I used to be able to see things in the dark – now I need some – maybe even a lot of light – in order to see. Like my iPad gets the brightness turned up to max when I preach without my glasses – it really helps. Light helps us see things.

Seeing clearly is important. My wife did some remodeling of our home and one of the things she did was had us install new LED lights throughout the house. With less wattage used – the brightness has improved – and we can see better. We had to return some bulbs because the same wattage was too much in some rooms. Speaking of seeing clearly – two new mirrors and better lighting in the master bathroom shows way too many wrinkles on my face – just saying! I was wondering why we had a picture of my father in the bathroom when looking into the mirror. Continue reading

He Bore Our Sins! We Owe Him Our Everything!

Isaiah 53:12

For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

So the day after Easter – a time when most pastors take time off to sleep late and spend some down time – found me on the road early to the Annapolis Mall to sit outside the Apple Store to see if I could get my work laptop fixed. After waiting an hour for the store to open and 45 minutes after that to see a tech and about 15 minutes of running tests – I was told that I needed a new top case assembly (keyboard circuit and cover). They could fix it in the store but it would take 3-5 days. So – at work – I will be using my iPad and work more from home on my iMac – till I get it back. I’ll need to find some down time later.

Today’s passage is a prophecy concerning Jesus. It ends with a reminder that He bore our sins on the cross of Calvary. He made intercession before the Father on our behalf. He took upon Himself all of our sins – and according to scripture the sins of the world – for those who would receive His grace – paying the blood price we could not ever consider paying. Remember – there would be no Easter without Good Friday – no victory over the grave had Jesus not died on the cross first. He bore our sins – we owe Him our everything! Continue reading

Christmas Is Coming – Where Is Our Heart?

Luke 12:34

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Christmas is fast approaching. The remembrance of Christ’s birth is fast approaching. We will begin singing Christmas this coming Sunday to help prepare us for the season. I know the stores have been advertising Christmas since July 4th is seems – but now – it is merely 20 days away.

So – what is on your list for Christmas this year? Would you like a new iPad Pro – even if you have a workable iPad or other pad? How about the latest video game? We use to get loads of clothes for Christmas – at times we got them early so we could wear them before Christmas – like a winter coat if it got really cold early in the fall. I remember marking things in the Sears Christmas catalog for my parents when it came out. What new tech item is out we might want? What new item for our Christmas decorations do we want or have we gotten already? Christmas is only a short time away. Continue reading

Christmas Is A Short Time Away

Luke 12:34

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

RayMcDChristmas is a short time away – just in case you haven’t been to any of the retail stores of late. I mean – some had Christmas stuff up this past summer – some before Thanksgiving  all have it up now! In worship we are singing Advent songs and Christmas songs (I know – liturgically they are not supposed to be sung yet – but – I love them so – as do our folks).

So what is on your list for Christmas? Would you like an iPad Pro – even if you have a workable iPad or other pad? How about the latest video game? We use to get loads of clothes for Christmas – at times we got them early so we could wear them before Christmas – like a winter coat if it got cold early. I remember marking things in the Sears Christmas catalog for my parents when it came out. Christmas is only a short time away.

If we were in Sunday School or at a beauty pageant – we might say our wish for everyone to receive Jesus or peace on earth. Thinking on a more spiritual level – what is it we would wish for this Christmas – if we could wish and it would come true? I mean – what do we treasure the most? The passage this morning says that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.  So – what do we treasure? Continue reading
