Seeking Wisdom During Our Prayer/Fast

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

fullsizeoutput_ffeWisdom is something we should all seek after – shouldn’t we? Godly wisdom is something that God wants to give to us – generously – according to today’s passage. Why wouldn’t we seek after it? Why would we think we could survive on our own wisdom? Remember the last time we did…?

Godly wisdom is something we should seek after for sure. It is something I will be seeking after during our November Prayer/Fast. Wisdom to discern God’s will in my life would be amazing – but I will take whatever type of wisdom God wishes to share with me. As we seek God – I pray that we will also seek God’s will and wisdom in our lives. Continue reading

Do We Lack Wisdom? Just Ask God!

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

112015 Ray McDonaldOK – as I’m writing this devotional thought – the Orioles’ opening game is in a rain delay.   It looks like it will begin at 4:45 pm. I hope they can play long enough to win! I’ve been to several Home Openers and enjoy them but didn’t try to get tickets this year for some reason. Not sure if this can be called wisdom or not. I’m safe and dry and in my easy chair as I type and listen to the pre-game stuff. I have friends who are at the game as the rain falls and the temps drop! One just twitted to me that he was working in the stands (after I twitted that I was working from home).

As the season unfolds we will be in a better place to know if the front office had wisdom or not in putting together this year’s team. They should score lots of runs – I just hope the pitching holds up! We know the defense will be golden! The game is about to start! The first pitch is a – wait for it – a tough pop up to the short stop! Wow – the wind really blew it around! We have four starters with gold gloves in the past and two that should get them soon. (To of the first inning went one – two – three – go O’s.) Continue reading

Seek His Face and Desire His Grace

1 Chronicles 16:11

Study God and his strength, seek his presence day and night; The Message

profileHere we sit – facing another government shutdown.  A number of my friends and a number of the folks I know are being furloughed without pay.  Not sure how long some of them will be able to go without a paycheck.  Some folks don’t have a savings – for a variety of reasons – some beyond their control and some by their own decisions.  Either way – it may be a tough fall if the shutdown lasts for any length of time for sure.

Where will we find help?  We could spend this time debating politics and blaming first one side of the debate and than the other side.  We could blame the President and then all the Presidents men and women.  There surely is enough blame to go around.  What I’d like for us to do is realize that things are going to go from bad to worse as the age rolls along.  There will be wars and rumors of wars.  There will be corrupt governments and corrupt people.  The world is headed down a road toward total destruction – if and only if God doesn’t intervene. Seeking Wisdom

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

Wisdom is something we should all seek after – shouldn’t we? Godly wisdom is something that God wants to give to us – generously – according to today’s passage. Why wouldn’t we seek after it? Why would we think we could survive on our own wisdom? Remember the last time we did…? Godly wisdom is something we should seek after for sure.

On January 10th we will begin a 21-day prayer/fast at Mt. Oak – seeking God’s will for a new year – for our church – for our lives and families. There are 12 days – starting tomorrow (Thursday) – before the fast begins. I would like to invite you to join me in a daily reading on Wisdom for those 12 days. You can find this 12 day reading plan at http://www.youversion.com/reading-plans/wisdom – or in your reading plans on YouVersion under Glo Bible and Topical and the word Wisdom. You can sign up online or on your data device so you can follow along with the readings each day – or simply read this post daily and I will put up the information and make some comments as well. You can ask questions on my blog page (https://raymcdonald.wordpress.com/), through e-mail (mailto:ray@mtoak.org) or at Ask the Pastor (http://www.facebook.com/groups/174396889286714/) on Facebook.

I’m looking forward to this reading plan and to the 21-day prayer/fast that is coming soon. May God touch our hearts and mold us into the men and women God desires. I know I need wisdom to be the husband – father – man of God that God desires. It could all start tomorrow! Join me.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
