An Everlasting Love

Jeremiah 31:3

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

RamonBlogAn everlasting love – have you been in search of just such a love?  Have you found just such a love as this – a love that would last through anything and everything?  I believe most of us have searched for the one lasting love that will be a love for the ages.  If we’re like many – we have had our ups and downs seeking that love.  Broken hearts happen when someone we thought might be the lasting love – didn’t last.  I have counseled people over the years who have entered into marriage or even a relationship with a person they thought would be with them forever – only to have their dream – their heart-broken when the relationship – the marriage – the love didn’t last.

Jeremiah was giving a prophetic word to Israel and he wrote these words – Jeremiah 31:1-4 – 1 “At that time,” declares the Lord, “I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they will be my people.” 2 This is what the Lord says: “The people who survive the sword will find favor in the desert; I will come to give rest to Israel.” 3 The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness. 4 I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out to dance with the joyful.

love hd normalSome of us are blessed to have a lasting love in marriage – but – all of us could have an everlasting love relationship with God!  He has made many promises which will not be broken.  His love is true and everlasting. Here are a few of God’s promises. Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Isaiah 41:13-17 – 13 For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. 14 Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob, O little Israel, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. 15 “See, I will make you into a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them, and reduce the hills to chaff. 16 You will winnow them, the wind will pick them up, and a gale will blow them away. But you will rejoice in the Lord and glory in the Holy One of Israel.  17 “The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

God is a God of God’s word!  Say that three times fast!  God has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.  God has promised to hold our hand and carry us through the tough times in life.  God will not abandon us when all others do.  God will not stop loving us when we do something unlovable.  In today’s passage we see this promise once again – The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”

God’s love is an everlasting love.  I pray that all who read this today have experienced this forever love.  If not – turn your heart to Jesus today and experience what many of us have searched a lifetime to find – an everlasting love.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
