Come Holy Spirit – Come!

John 14:26

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

I listened to a sermon by Reinhard Bonnke from a Jesus Culture event.  Today’s Scripture came to mind – But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

I believe too many Christians – too many churches and too many denominations – shy away from the Holy Spirit these days. I believe that if we shy away from the Holy Spirit – we are shying away from God with us today. Jesus said – before He ascended to heaven – that the Father would send One in His name – the Counselor – the Holy Spirit – to teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Too many are shying away from the Holy Spirit and going through the motions – powerless to be the church – without the Holy Spirit fire. Maybe this is why the United Methodist Church – many other denominations – and non-denominational churches – are falling these days. Too many preachers – too many boards of elders and lay leaders are trying to be the church without the Holy Spirit’s power. We cannot be the church without God with us today – the Holy Spirit. It is as clear as that! Continue reading

The Helper – The Holy Spirit

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

profileI grew up being my grandmother’s helper.  She lived with us until she purchased the property next door to us and built her own home.  As a little fellow I would tag along with my grandmother as she worked her property – her garden – her new home.

I had a little wheel barrel and grandmother would place one brick in it as I tagged along after her with her wheel barrel full.  She would take off and I would holler after her wait for me maw as I would try to keep up.  I was her helpmate – but not a very good one. Continue reading

The Counselor – The Holy Spirit

John 14:26

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

RevRayWho is your counselor?  Who do you go to for advice?  Is there someone you go to in times of need to advise you?  Growing up – some of us turned to our parents – some of us to our older siblings and later some of us to our peer group.  We didn’t always get good sound advice in all of these situations – but at times maybe.  In school there were guidance counselors – at times they were good and at times not so good.  I’ve heard some of their counsel – and it isn’t always the best (I’m sure that depends on the counselor).  In the church people come to their pastor for advice at times and at times they go to professional counselors to be advised.  So – who is your counselor?  I hope you have one – I know I have several.

This term counselor is how Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit.  The Greek term used in today’s passage is Parákleetos – translated counselor by NIV but it can also be translated as comforter or advocate.  Any of the three sounds like the Holy Spirit is there to help us.  It makes me wonder why so many resist or turn away from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God With Us Today!

John 14:26

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Sunday Pastor Charlie mentioned some of the revivals the church has experienced over the years – such as the Great Awakening.  I’m listening to a sermon by Reinhard Bonnke – whom Pastor Charlie mentioned – from a recent Jesus Culture event.  This Scripture comes to mind – But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The Church is exploding across the world – Jesus is being lifted and glorified.  People are coming to Jesus by the millions in Africa and throughout the world – all because the people who share Jesus with them share through the power of the Holy Spirit!

Acts 2:17-21 – 17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

A massive outpouring of the Holy Spirit will break the bonds that Satan has over even the church today – if we open ourselves to such power.

Humans are not meant to live day-to-day on our own power – sisters and brothers.  We are meant to be vessels for God’s power to work in us – through us – and in spite of us.  Do you remember trying to park a big car in the days before power assisted steering?  It was so hard!  But when power assisted steering arrived – even the weakest among us could steer the biggest vehicles.  It can be this way in our Christian lives my friends!  Stay tuned!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
