Trusting in the Lord

John 16:33

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Life ChangeHave any of us ever wished we could tell the future? Are any of us the type of person who would like to know what is coming next? I mean – if we could know the day and time of something in our life – would we appreciate that knowledge or would it freak us out? I’m not sure for me – whether I would want to know or not.

What if we could know when we were going to die? What if we could know what will happen next week in our life? What if we had an idea about how we would be treated because of whom we followed on social media?

Dear Christian readers – listen to God when God says – the world will hate us because we follow Him. Jesus tried to warn His disciples – His followers – about what was coming – about the hate that we would face in the world we live in today. In the midst of some of His warnings – we find today’s passage – I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. Continue reading

Peace Comes From Loving God

The Strong Tower

Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

profileOK – here we go again – Christmas is almost here.  Just a few more days to go.  Have you finished your shopping?  I found something for my wife today – and I hope she likes it!  She does such a wonderful job with the Christmas shopping – all I need to do it get her something!

Yesterday some things happened in the news that got some people riled up and many of them aired their thoughts on Facebook.  My news feed was filled with posts and comments about two news items in particular.  It was amusing at times to read them and at times it was sad. Continue reading

It Will Get Worse My Friends

2 Timothy 3:13

…while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

RevRayHave you ever had one of those days?  I follow some people on Facebook and every once-in-a-while some folks posts things like – could the day get any worse – if only I could catch a break – I think the world is against me – and worse.  Sometimes it seems like – from the moment you get out of bed things are stacked against you.  Ever felt that way?

We just finished posting a devotional thought that reminded us to look for the good in everyone and even in every situation (Attitude Check – Again!).  Yet we cannot stick our heads in the ground and not see the truth in God’s word – the days will get worse for the children of God.

Today’s passage comes from a section where Paul is giving instruction to a young pastor – Timothy – and those of his parish.  Here it is in partial context – 2 Timothy 3:10-17 – 10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings — what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
