Christ Is The True Light!

2 Samuel 22:29

You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light.

Ray 2019It is getting dark – earlier and earlier it seems. I feel like it is 9 pm at 5 pm – and I hope that isn’t just age. It must be somewhat age related because I want to go to bed earlier and earlier too (although I still stay up late from time-to-time). At times it is hard to fall asleep. My wife has candles in the front windows – and we shut the blinds so the candles shining into the darkness of the bedroom at night won’t keep us awake. But – the glow keeps me awake at times.

I was watching TV the other day – and I almost purchased some outside flood lights that were being advertised. They are self-contained. They have cells that charge the battery. They are stronger than most other lights. They have a motion sensor. I would love to have a couple. I’m a sucker at times for infomercials. I mean – darkness can be like day with these.

Speaking of infomercials – have you seen the tactical light advertised? It has a broader than normal beam. It can be run over by a Humvee and still work. It can be frozen in a block of ice and still shine. I purchased two – one for me and one for the wife. You never know when you might need light in the darkness of the night. Continue reading

Holy Week – Let’s Focus on Jesus

Colossians 3:2

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Life ChangeYesterday – Palm Sunday – we began Holy Week. This is the week before Jesus’ crucifixion. Thursday will be Holy or Maundy Thursday. We will remember the Lord’s Supper this year with a Seder Meal. It will be a powerful experience and we hope all who signed up to attend will indeed be able to attend.

Friday – this week – is Good Friday. As a young child I couldn’t figure out why it was called Good Friday if it was the day that Jesus died. Later I realized that it was called Good Friday because it was good for us that He died – to pay for our sins. We will have a service at 7 pm in the Sanctuary as we continue our walk to the cross with John’s Gospel account. It is very important that we all attend the Good Friday service. Change your plans to be here – if you weren’t planning to attend. Sunday – Easter morning – will not have the same meaning without attending worship on Good Friday. I promise you! Let’s set our minds on Jesus – and see what will happen. Continue reading

Day 38 of Lent 2018

John 17:17

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

Today is day 39 of the 40 Days of our Lenten reading plan (looks like the plan will have 47 days because the Sundays didn’t count). I hope you have stayed with us. Today’s passage is about the truth. It comes from part of Jesus’ prayer for His Disciples in John’s Gospel.

Lent is typically a time to give something up – to stop a bad habit – to deny self – to dig deeper into our walk with Jesus. Today we want to read about Jesus’ heart for His Disciples and for the truth. Continue reading

Peace Comes From Loving God

John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

RayMcDAre any of us the type of person who would like to know what is coming next? I mean – if we could know the day and time of something in our life – would we appreciate that knowledge or would it freak us out?

What if we could know when we were going to die? What if we could know what will happen next week in our life? What if we had an idea about how we would be treated because of whom we followed?

Dear Christian readers – hear God when God says – the world will hate us because we follow Him. Jesus tried to warn His disciples – His followers – about what was coming – about the hate that we would face in the world we live in today. In the midst of some of His warnings – we find today’s passage –“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Continue reading
