Thoughts and Reflections

Day 27 of Lent 2018

John 13:34

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Today is day 27 of the 40 Days of Lent reading plan on www.youversion.com. I hope we have all kept up with the reading plan. Lent is the 40 days leading up to the cross of Calvary. Stay current with the reading or go back and catch up.

Today’s reading is about the Last Supper and has lots in it – make sure you read the whole reading below.  The verse I picked to reflect upon is near the end of the reading for the day – verse 34. Jesus said A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. We are called to love others – one another – as Christ loved us. The example of His love was just foretold as He talked about His betrayal and death. Jesus’ love is even for those who would turn against Him – if they repent and return to Him. He even loved us – Scripture says – before we loved Him. Something to think about today! Continue reading

Day 25 of Lent 2018

1 Corinthians 11:26

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Today is Day 25 of the 40 Days of Lent reading plan on www.youversion.com. I pray that you have been keeping up with the reading each day. If not – try to catch up! I appreciate this walk to the cross. It is not hard or long – and will give us a good insight into the walk that Jesus made for us.

On March 29th we will celebrate Holy Communion as we remember the Last Supper that Jesus had with His disciples. It will be a special time before the Lord and we hope that all will attend. Plans are being made to make this a unique service. (By the way – we will also celebrate communion tomorrow – March 11th – since I was out on surgery leave on March 4th.  Today’s passage is about that last supper and reminds us to treat it with respect. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Growing in Grace

2 Peter 3:18

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

profileAs I grew up – I began to look and act (at times) like my father.  People said we looked alike.  I was named after him.  I was his eldest son.  I prided myself in being my dad’s son.

Another person I tried to emulate – I they have video of me doing it – is Boog Powell.  I had a first baseman’s glove.  I practiced bouncing a ball off the chimney and when all of my balls went down the hill I played with an invisible ball (I made all the stops with that one).  He was my favorite player growing up.  I still enjoy seeing him at Boog’s Barbecue and the ball yard when I go.

Jesus tells us that we are to follow His example.  Paul even tells us to follow him as he follows Christ.  Jesus’ example was to show grace – to show love – to live His life in such a way that He reflected His Father.  At the Last Supper He washed His disciples’ feet – a task that only the lowest servant would do in a normal household.  He humbled Himself and told His disciples –John 13:15 – I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
