Victory in Jesus

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

profileOne of my favorite hymns is Victory in Jesus.  Here are some of the lyrics from that old favorite hymn.

I heard an old, old story, how a saviour came from glory, how he gave His life on Calvary, to save someone like me. I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood’s atoning, then I repented of my sin and won the victory.

Oh, victory in Jesus, my saviour forever, He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood. He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him. He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing, of His cleansing pow’r revealing, how He made the lame to walk again, and caused the blind to see. And then I cried “dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit” and somehow Jesus came and brought to me the victory.

Oh, victory in Jesus, my saviour forever, He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood. He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him. He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood. Continue reading

Justified Through Faith

Romans 5:1

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

profileI remember collecting pop bottles as a child.  We would roam the community and pick up the empties people threw out their windows.  In our wagon we would collect as a many as we could carry or as many as we could find.  We would take them to the store or gas station where they sold pop.  We would get 2 cents for every bottle we collected.  The store owner/worker would count up the bottles – make sure they were bottles he serviced and make an accounting of how much he owed us.  If we had bottles he couldn’t return to his distributor – he would not count them and we had to take them back.  In turn we would take the money we got for the pop bottles and buy candy and pop from him.

I remember counting in my head as we approached the store – just how much my efforts had earned me that day and how much candy I could buy.  I use to buy baseball cards with my money – if I remember correctly I could get five cards and a large piece of bazooka bubble gum for a nickel.  It was my first job – if you want to call it that – a time when my work (picking up the bottles) resulted in a payback. Encouragement – the Goldy Thing to Do

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

RevRayEncouragement – have you ever given it or received it?  I mean – really – and if so – how did it feel?  Recently one of my daughters was going through a tough experience – and the family encouraged her to hang in and she did and she accomplished her goals.  I imagine the encouragement helped.  At times we just need to be encouraged – we need others to believe in us and to help us see the possibilities that we might not be able to see during tough times.

Can you remember the last time you gave someone encouragement?  Can you remember the last time someone gave you encouragement?  How did they make you feel?  Share in the comments section if you will.

Today’ passage speaks about encouragement – Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. Encouragement is very helpful. Continue reading
