God’s Love Endures Forever

Psalm 136:1

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.

RayMcDWe often debate what is good in our lives. For instance – if you asked me a year ago what was good – I might say – lemon meringue pie – or peanut butter moose track ice cream. These days I can’t have either and have had to turn them down (I’m trying to lose some weight for a variety of reason). Some might say – my marriage is good – or my children are good – or my favorite team is good.

School is getting ready to start back up and maybe you think your school’s football team is good or their soccer team or volleyball team. You might think your entire school is good. It might be your school’s band that you think is good. Some of us might even say our school is good. What or who do you think is good?

The ultimate good – according to Scripture and the personal experience from many of us – is the love of God. All things we consider good are temporal – they do not last. But the love of God endures forever. Continue reading

Our Love For God

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

A sign of whom we love or what we love is what we are willing to give up for them or it. For instance – I asked my Tuesday morning Bible Study – who or what they loved. They responded with the normal list – children – pets – Jesus of course – and more. When asked what they would be willing to do for a pet with a major illness – some said – whatever it takes. Another said they would sell their house to help with the medical bills of a child.

We are willing to do whatever it takes for those we love or something we love. Some of us – for the sake of a few dollars – would camp out overnight at a store to assure that we were one of the first ones in the next day or overnight to get tickets to a movie or a concert. We’ll do some crazy things for something we love. Continue reading

God’s Love

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

profileWhen Shelly – our oldest – was born – I believe if I had been put in the situation – I would have given my life in exchange for hers (thank God I was never in that situation).  I would do the same for my wife and all three of my daughters I believe (we never know what we might do – really – until we are actually faced with situations).

If you expanded that circle I might include a few family members and even a few close friends – but the circle wouldn’t be too wide.  What would you be willing to do for a friend?  Would your circle be wide or small? Continue reading
