Your View of Marriage Is Important

Genesis 2:18

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

fullsizeoutput_ffeWhat are your views on marriage? If you were asked about your views – what would you be prepared to say? Our denomination is dealing with this right now as we process how we understand Scripture. The debate is not really about marriage – although that is one of the presenting issues. The discussion or debate is about the authority of Scripture and how we interpret God’s Word. Today’s devotional thought is about marriage – what are our views?

In this day and age when people are living together before or without marriage in alarming numbers – divorcing at an ever-increasing rate – when debates rage concerning who may get married (same-sex partners) – what are our view on marriage? It is important to know where we stand on issues of importance like marriage – the cornerstone of our society. We need marriage as a foundation of our culture. The family is a main stronghold. Think about it!

A great place to start the discussion on marriage would be the Word of God – the Bible. What does God tell us – thru His Holy Word – about marriage? Here are a few passages.

Genesis 2:18The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Continue reading

Will We Be Ashamed of the Gospel?

Romans 1:16

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

profileOn Monday I wrote about the primacy of scripture in determining God’s will in our lives – you can read it here.  Scripture is primary when determining God’s will – using tradition – experience and reason as tools.  My conclusion was that when tradition – experience – and reason differ with Scripture – if they would every line up as such – Scripture is still primary and trumps the other three.

On Tuesday I wrote about God’s design for marriage – one man and one woman – you can read it here.  In our Lord’s own words we read – Matthew 19:4-6 – 4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’  5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?  6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”  There is no suggestion otherwise in Scripture.  Jesus even told us that some would not be able to accept this truth – this teaching.  Matthew 19:11-12 – 11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.” Continue reading
