Day 18 of Lent 2018

Matthew 25:13

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”

Today is day 18 of the 40 Days of Lent reading plan on www.youversion.com. I hope you are enjoying the 40 Day reading plan and the few comments I leave each day. Keep up with the stories about Jesus’ life as He walked to the cross.

Today’s reading ends with a verse like yesterday’s first passage. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” The hour is coming – but it will be a time only the Father knows. Our task is to share Jesus with as many people as we are able until that time comes. At First Church we believe we are called to reach the whole family for Christ. How can we help each other to help the kingdom! What can we do to better serve Jesus and draw others to Him? Continue reading

Therefore Keep Watch

Matthew 25:13

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

RayMcDTherefore keep watch. Fifteen years ago we were dealing with the aftermath of 911. Radical Islamic terrorists – part of al-Qaeda – hit American soil by crashing hijacked passenger airliners into the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon and without the brave actions of some Americans – they would probably have hit the White House as well. It took us all by surprise. We are still reeling from the impact. Our world has never been the same.

Therefore keep watch. Our world has never been the same after several surprises. Here are but a few of them. I’m including only a few of the events that have happened in my lifetime.

Therefore keep watch. Fourteen years ago – in October 2002 – the Beltway Shooter terrorized our area as ten people were killed and several others were critically wounded. Some people were afraid to go out of their homes until the capture of the Beltway Shooter – who terrorized the DC area.

Day 18 of Lent

Matthew 25:13

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”

Yesterday was day 18 of the 40 Days of Lent reading plan on www.youversion.com. Sorry I missed posting.  I hope you are enjoying the 40 Day reading plan.  Keep up with the stories about Jesus’ life as He walked to the cross.

Yesterday’s reading ends with a verse like Friday’s first passage.  “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”  The hour is coming – but it will be a time only the Father knows.  Our task is to share Jesus with as many people as we are able until that time comes.  At Mt. Oak we believe we are called to reach the whole family for Christ.  How can you help us or help the kingdom!

The entire reading for Saturday is Matthew 25:1-13 – 1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ 9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 “Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”

Preparing for the Wedding Feast

Revelation 19:7

Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

My oldest daughter blogged recently about the three weddings our family has experienced in the last 3 ½ years – check it out here.  It has been a fun – chocked filled time with family and friends as our three daughters were married.  My wife and I could tell you loads of stories about preparing for a wedding – about the service – about the reception – etc.

What I would like to talk about is walking down the aisle with my three daughters as they were getting married.  I cried all three times – thinking that they were not only growing up but starting a new season of their lives.  I thank God for the three Godly men they married and pray for their happiness in Christ and in marriage.
