The Holy Spirit Comes Upon Us

Luke 1:35

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

I remember when I was in elementary school – we use to pass notes in class (I don’t recommend this to our students).  You know the type note I’m talking about – the girls would make up these little books with questions in them like do you like so-in-so?  One of the questions on a booklet passed around said – do you watch Dark Shadows? Now Dark Shadows was a show that came on right after school – a soap opera as it were. It was about a vampire and creepy things. As Christians – we are called to serve others – to even think of others above ourselves – to love others like Christ loves us. John 13:34-35 – 34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

The call for Christians is to serve others – to follow the example set by our Lord – Jesus – who came not to be served – but rather to serve others. Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Continue reading
