May We Only Boast in the Cross

Galatians 6:14

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Life ChangeDid your team win the National Championship in Division 1 basketball? Virginia won for the men. My cousin Mac went to Virginia and he was very happy. Did your team even make the dance? If so – how far did they go? My team – Maryland – made the dance and made it to the second round – but fizzled out. Did any of us boast on social media about our team? How about at work or in other conversations?

Did our team win their opening game in Major League Baseball this week? The Orioles usually do but didn’t this year. Which team will win their division this year – the league championship – the World Series? If our team is playing well – will we compare them to other teams and boast a little in our circles? The Orioles started out real well and had a few good games – but are losing as of late.

I saw some parents posting on Facebook about their children’s spring teams and some about their children’s scholastic achievements. I’m so proud of our youth and the youth I know. Some High School seniors I know are busy preparing for college or careers. Our new favorite college team might just be where our child attends – even if we never saw ourselves rooting for them before! Continue reading

21-Day Prayer/Fast – Day 14

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

01032015 RaySo we’re in day 14 of 21 – are we hungry yet – have we been filled by a deeper relationship with Jesus?  When I’m golfing with friends and we’re all having a tough hole or a tough round – I often ask the question – are we having fun yet?  So here I am – asking the obvious in another venue to a bunch of people who have been fasting for 14 days – are we hungry yet – are we having fun yet (in Jesus)?

If we’ve fasted from certain foods or even all food – hunger might be something we are dealing with these days.  If we fasted from something other than food – we might be getting hungry for what we are missing (I’ve had so many times I’ve wanted to post something on Twitter or Facebook – like during the Ravens game last Saturday or during the National Championship game on Monday)!  Hunger is not a bad thing.  Yet hunger can be a desire that controls us unless we control it – Tony Evans talks about controlling the stomach in his series on Fasting.  Having spiritual control over a physical desire is important – so the physical thing or desire doesn’t take control of us!  This is a main part of our prayer/fast.  Gaining spiritual control over the physical in our lives. The Rock

1 Samuel 2:2

“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”

profileFor those WWF/E fans – I’m not going to talk about The Rock – Dwayne Johnson. The Rock was college football player at Miami – winning a National Championship with the team in 1991. Because of a back injury – he ended up following his grandfather and father into professional wrestling and became one of the most successful and well liked wrestlers of all time winning 17 championships in the WWE. He won the 2000 Royal Rumble.

Dwayne Johnson also played in a few movies including The Scorpion King in 2002 – the first film where he was the lead actor. He also starred in a remake of Walking Tall (one of my favorite movies) and several other films. You can check out the list of films here.

So – if we aren’t talk about Dwayne Johnson – The Rock – today – who or what are we talking about? Maybe we’re talking about the film – The Rockthe 1996 movie starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage. That was a great film – where a group of rogue US special force marines capture an arsenal of chemical weapons and take up residence on The Rock – an island prison called Alcatraz. It was a great movie filled with suspense and intrigue. Continue reading
