God Will Not Allow Us To Face Life Alone

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

God’s promise in today’s passage is not just for Israel – it is for all of God’s followers. No matter what we face God has promised to be with us. God has promised to go thru the thick and thin times – the good and bad times – of life.

The older I get the more I believe we all go thru tough times. Lean years or even decades – where life doesn’t line up the way we might think or dream. Our marriages – as perfect as they may seem to others – have tough seasons. Our children – even the ones that seem to have it all together – cause us pain and suffering. Even the person that seems to have it all together – has periods in their life when they face difficult times. Continue reading

Who Am I?

Exodus 3:11

But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”  NIV84

profileHave you ever wondered – who am I?  It was not uncommon in the 60’s and 70’s for young people to face confusion about who they were – what with the Vietnam war – peace rallies and then the aftermath of that war and decade.  Maybe every generation faces this question – who am I?  During the 60’s and 70’s a number of people I knew went out to find themselves.  For many this meant moving away from home – maybe going to California or Canada or somewhere where the rules of their present life didn’t apply.  Some went off to college and through this journey tried to find themselves.  For some it meant experimenting with life and at times drugs.  Communes were not uncommon – where people tried to live without constraints – trying to find themselves.

Today we can simply click an app and know exactly where we are at any given time (that was meant to be a funny!).  Where are you in your life’s journey?  If you asked the question who am I what would your answer be at this given moment? Continue reading

God Will Never Leave Us Nor Forsake Us! Awesome!

Joshua 1:5

No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

I think most of us like this promise from God – that God would never leave us nor forsake us.  Joshua was leading the people of God and God was promising to be with them – never to leave them and never to forsake them.

Most of us have had far too many people leave us and run out of us – from fathers and/or mothers – to husbands or wives – to friends – at least we thought they were friends.  A generation or two ago not only did many if not most marriages last a lifetime – but so did many jobs.  It was not unusual for a person to work 30-40 years for the same company.

In this day and age – when marriages are failing at an alarming rate – when jobs might not last to the end of the month – when people change loyalties like they change their socks – having something or someone we can count on is important.  It can be life changing – it can be freeing for sure.

Isaiah 43:1b-3a – 1b Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. 3 For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

Praise God that God loves us so much and is a consistent presence in our lives!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
