We Should Let Our Light Shine

Philippians 2:15-16

15 Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life.

Life ChangeHave you ever looked out into the night sky and watched the stars? If you live in an urban area – this might be a little hard – but if you live in a rural area like I do – it is a sight to behold. The stars shine brightly in the clear night sky. When I was a teenager – I used to love sitting on the roof top of our family home – just outside my upstairs bedroom window – watching the sky (my room had a window that opened onto the roof and I slipped out there some nights – my parents didn’t know – I think – unless my brother ratted on me – we shared a room).

Let’s look at today’s passage in partial context. Philippians 2:12–18 – 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. 14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”  Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. Blameless and Pure

Philippians 2:15

so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky

Yesterday we wrote about people knowing that we were Christians by our love (you can read it here if you have an interest). The key line yesterday was this – As Christians – others should know us simply by our love for one another. We are called to follow the example of Christ in loving one another. We are to love as He loved. Our love for others should be an example to others of the love of Christ.

Today we want to write some on being blameless and pure. Today’s passage says we are to become blameless and pure as children of God. Philippians 2:15 – so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky. We know full well that becoming blameless and pure is not something we can do on our own. Do We Let Our Light Shine?

Strive to be Blameless and Pure

Philippians 2:15

…so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky

112015 Ray McDonaldDear readers – how’s your Prayer/Fast going? I will try to ask this each day or as often as possible.  I hope that some of our readers will leave comments on this blog page as to how their Prayer/Fast is going and what God might be revealing to them.

Let me report that my Prayer/Fast is going well – although I may reconsider my fast from Social Media. I found out just how much I use Social Media in ministry these last two days.  To avoid it – would hinder me – I think. Keeping up with members and youth/young adults through social media helps me greatly. I will reconsider it – maybe not comment as much but still keep in touch.  I will seek something else.  Any ideas?

I have spent more time in prayer and reading the Word of God during the first few days of the Prayer/Fast. I feel a new closeness to Jesus. Every little bit helps!  I am doing two reading plans from http://www.youversion.com and encourage our readers to find a plan that works for you.  Mine are The One Year Bible and Devotions for Lent from Holy Bible: Mosaic if you desire to read along.
