God’s Love Is Good!

Psalm 136:1

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.

Rays HaircutWe often debate what is good in our lives. For instance – if you asked me a few years ago what was good – I might have said – lemon meringue pie – or peanut butter moose track ice cream. These days I can’t have either (at least I’m not supposed to have them) and have had to turn them down (I’m trying to lose some weight for a variety of reason). Some might say – my marriage is good – or my children are good – or my favorite team is good.

School is out for the remainder of this school year because of the pandemic. Some might say that is good. I feel for the seniors who are missing out on so much.

The NFL just released their full schedule for the 2020-2021 season and some might say that is good. Getting back to sports might help us some. I wonder if baseball will begin around July 1?

What or who do you think is good? Getting back to work? Getting a paycheck? Retiring? Being able to see your family again? I hope your marriage is good – if you are married.

The ultimate good – according to Scripture and the personal experience from many of us – is the love of God. All things we consider good are temporal – they do not last. But the love of God endures forever. Continue reading

Day 32 of Lent 2020

Philippians 3:10-11

10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

Ray 2020Today is day 32 of the 40 Days of our Lenten reading plan (remember Sundays don’t count toward the 40 days of Lent). I hope you have stayed with us. I veered off of the online plan and am finishing the plan myself. Today’s passage is about digging deeper into our faith – our trust of Jesus. We should be using this isolation time to draw near to God and to develop our faith and our bodies.

Lent is typically a time to give something up – to stop a bad habit – to deny yourself – to dig deeper into our walk with Jesus. Today we want to read what Paul had to say about getting to know Christ better. He was so into getting to know Jesus that he sought to suffer for Jesus and even die for Jesus. He wanted to experience all that knowing Jesus entailed. He wanted to know Jesus deeper than he already did. He was willing to give up all else in order to walk with Jesus. Continue reading

God’s Love Is Everlasting – Forever

Psalm 136:1

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.

Life ChangeIt is often debated – whether something is good or not in our lives. For instance – if you asked me a few years ago what was good – I might have said – lemon meringue pie – or peanut butter moose track ice cream. These days I can’t have either (often if at all) and have had to turn them down (I’m still trying to lose some weight for a variety of reason). Some might say – my marriage is good – or my children are good – or my favorite team is good.

School is entering the home stretch for some seniors in High School – the spring season for sports is upon us. You might think your entire school is good. It might be your school’s band that you think is good. Some of us might even say our community is good. What or who do you think is good?

The ultimate good – according to Scripture and the personal experience from many of us – is the love of God. All things we consider good are temporal – they do not last. But the love of God endures forever – it is everlasting. Continue reading

Happy New Years 2019

Philippians 3:12

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

January 1st is here – Happy New Year. What will you do with the new year? Do you have a plan for the days ahead? Remember what I wrote yesterday – If we aim at nothing – we’re bound to hit it. I hope that we didn’t party too much last night (I know I was in bed early). I hope that we have a plan for the new year. What about some deepening of our faith? What about healing some relationships? What about losing some weight and getting into better shape?

January 1st is here – Happy New Year. Did you make any resolutions? Have you held to them for this day? Or have you broken some of your resolutions already? I listed some of mine yesterday. They include – I plan on losing more weight. I plan on reading more in the Word of God. I plan to increase my prayer life. I plan on spending more time with my family. I plan to take all of my vacation and days off. These are just a few of my 2019 goals. What are yours?
