Pornography – Conform Not!

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Sexuality drives the secular world it seems. One area of our lives where we are called to NOT conform to the pattern of this world is Sexuality and Pornography.

Pornography is very damaging to marriage and to all of human sexuality. Filling one’s mind with unnatural and fictitious scenarios can lead to expectations and demands that are not healthy or natural. It can lead to fantasies that are sinful and damage not only marriage but relationships with other men and women in your life. You will find yourself thinking thoughts about strangers and even close friends you would never have thought without the use of or involvement with pornography.

Pornography is addictive. It is easy to access today through the internet. It is sin and WILL damage your marriage. As a single person, it will damage your thinking about sexuality and when you marry it will cause expectations that will lead to difficulties in your marriage, guaranteed. Continue reading

Do We Love Jesus More Than Anything?

Matthew 22:37-38

37 Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

IMG_0301This is one of my favorite passages.  A pastor on the staff of a church I use to serve – during a sermon – said: the question isn’t the one we typically hear – how much of the Holy Spirit do you have?  The question should be – how much of you have you allowed the Holy Spirit to have?  He also reminded us that the Holy Spirit comes to transform us – to change us – to make us holy.

Today’s passage – as I reflect back on that message – caused me to think – how committed are we to God?  We talk about being saved – but are we only after someone to save us from Hell? Isn’t He also suppose to be our Lord – our Master?  If the Holy Spirit dwells in us through our salvation – what difference are we allowing Him to make in us – in our lives?

I know some Christians who have made radical changes in their lives.  Some have stopped smoking when they came to Christ – some immediately.  Some have cleaned up their language – no longer sounding like sailors.  Some have turned from drug and alcohol addictions.  Some have turned from pornography.  Some have turned from same-sex relations or extra-marital relations.  Some have made radical changes in their lives because of Christ in their lives – because of the Holy Spirit dwelling in them. Every Man’s Battle

I would urge every man – and every parent of a son – to watch this video and take serious the sin of pornography.  It is not a passage of life.  It is not a small problem.  It is real and it is a sin that captures the hearts of many men today.

Here is the website for the book – http://www.fredstoeker.com/book/everymansbattle.shtml.

We have a group that is studying this book and would love to walk with you in this struggle.  Contact the church office to find out what day and time this group meets.  There are those who would start a new group if the current group doesn’t meet your needs.

Ephesians 5:3

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
