A Gentle Answer Turns Away Wrath

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

June 2019Often – we can tell by the tone of a person’s voice if they are upset or not? Maybe – we can tell if they are upset by the words or phases they use? Maybe we can tell someone is upset by his or her body language. How do we feel when someone is upset with us? How does it impact us? Does it help or hinder our relationship with them? Does it impact our ability to communicate with them? How does it make us feel?

I bet most of us would rather deal with people when they are not angry or upset. I know I would – for sure. I bet others would rather deal with us when we are not angry. But how do we control our anger or the anger of others? How do we keep situations calm and under control? It is not easy for sure. Continue reading

Harsh Words Do Not Promote Peace

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

I want to share a short devotional thought today.  While I was doing my morning reading this passage spoke to me.  A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. There are some wise words in Proverbs my friends.  We should all pay attention.  Try finding a reading plan on www.youversion.com like the one I started today – Proverbs in 31 days.  Join me.  Another addition to YouVersion on my iPad is I can read two version of the Bible at the same time – parallel.  I am reading the NIV84 (my primary version) and MSG (The Message Version).

As I reflected on this morning’s passage I realized how true is was – especially the second half of the statement.  I mean – reflecting on conversations I have had in the past – the times I went toe to toe with someone – it very rarely ended up good.  A gentle answer or response does turn away wrath or an undesirable response – most times.  I will need to remember this truth and walk it out more often in my life.  How about you?  Arguments with your spouse – your boss – your co-worker – your parents – your siblings – your friends – hardly ever bear good fruit.  Let’s become Proverbs 15 people!  Who is with me?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
