God Is Our Refuge And Strength

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

I do not like to work alone. I would rather have someone watch me – than to work alone. I have asked my brother and my wife numerous times to just sit and watch – just so I am not alone. I do not like to work alone.

I also like to have someone who knows what they are doing around. I am very good with computers – with cell phones – most of technology. My family calls on me to do those kinds of things. I’m good at cutting grass too (LOL). But hanging pictures – working on cars – doing plumbing – painting – etc. – I am not very good at these and other things. I have even asked a young man I know to build me some removable walls for my utility trailer – because I wouldn’t know how to go about it. Continue reading

Our Rock of Refuge

Psalm 71:3

Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.

RayMcDWhat do we rely upon? Up until the last few years – as a Ravens fan – I could rely on them having a winning record and going to the playoffs.

What do we rely upon? I can rely on my brother – when I ask him how his day went – telling me – same old same old – more times than not.

What do we rely upon? As a little redhead once sang – the sun will come up tomorrow!

What do we rely upon? Paying taxes every April 15th!

What do we rely upon? Do we have friends we can rely on – even when times get tough? Continue reading

Building On A Firm Foundation

Matthew 7:24

Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

RayChildLet me begin today by saying this is my last day in my 50s. Tomorrow I turn 60 years old. I keep saying that so that when I’m actually 60 – it won’t be such a big shock. I mean – there are so many benefits to being in your 60s! There will be more discounts in more places (I’ve had my AARP card since I was 50 – but some places require you to be 60 or even older for their discounts – go figure)! In some golf tournaments – 60 and over get to hit from the forward tees! That will be nice!

My friend – who just turned 60 – says it is no big deal! Another friend – who is well into his 60s says the same. I heard that 60 is the new 50! This week it has started to hit me! Continue reading

I Desire God

Psalm 73:25

earth has nothing I desire besides you.

20140530-104833-38913743.jpgWhat do you desire? For instance – if you were going out to dinner – what would you desire to eat? Are you a meat and potatoes type of person? Would you rather have seafood? Are you a surf and turf kind of person? Do you not eat meat? Would rather have a delicious salad?

What do you desire? For instance – if you were going to go to a ball game this year – would it be football – basketball – hockey – or baseball? Would it be a local team like the Orioles – Ravens – Nationals – Redskins – Caps – Wizards? Are you a professional sport’s fan or college? Are you a fan of Navy – Maryland – Georgetown – Towson – Morgan State – or Bowie State?

What do you desire? For instance – if you had an afternoon off – how would you spend it – playing golf – taking a nap – playing with your children – reading – or spending time with your spouse? What type of music do you listen to these days – oldies – pop – rock – soul – jazz  – gospel – or country? Continue reading
