Love One Another – Please!

Romans 12:10

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Some have had bad experiences growing up with family and some with church life. I talked to someone Tuesday that had a very bad experience with family and with the church.

Some of us aren’t sure how to love one another because we didn’t have a good model growing up. Some of us have a hard time showing love – even to those whom we are supposed to love. Growing up – if your home was void of expressions of love – it is something you had to learn as an adult (or still lack). Loving one another is not as easy as just saying the words.

I grew up in a loving home. I had a father and mother at home who loved each other and expressed that love – or modeled that expression of love – for their children. Did any of us grow up with siblings? I grew up with an older sister and a younger brother. We loved each other and still do today (mostly – LOL). Love was modeled for me growing up so it is easier for me to love others (though not easy – just easier). Continue reading

For God So Loved Us

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

112015 Ray McDonaldGod loves us and we are called to love God.  God so loved us – according to today’s passage – that He gave His own life for our lives.  God the Father so loved the world that He gave us God the Son to suffer death upon the Cross of Calvary for our redemption.  Today’s passage is a favorite of many.  John 3:16 is often put on posters at golf tournaments!

As Holy Week unfolds before us – we are being reminded of the love of God.  God’s love is what our walk with Jesus should be all about dear readers.  Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.  1 John 4:9–10 – 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Outdoing One Another in Showing Honor

Romans 12:10

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. ESV

profileI remember hearing Pastor Wellington Boone say at a revival some years ago that he would never let his wife out love him.  He was speaking about being a godly man – a godly husband.   He caught my attention.  He was talking about serving his wife and giving her love as Christ gives love.  He said if she gets up early to serve me and have to get up earlier the next morning to serve her.  It wasn’t a competition – yet it was – if that is what motivated him or us.  He said his wife was not his momma.  Maybe his momma served him – but he wasn’t going to let his wife out serve him. A New Command

John 13:34

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

profileA short devotional thought today – sorry this is so late.  Although short in words it is big in meaning.  Most will read it on Saturday – I’m sure.  I have written Monday’s already so that one will be on time – lol!

Love is a word that is often overused – if that is possible.  Love is not overused – but the word just might be – because people tend to use the word love and not mean it.

In today’s passage Jesus is giving instructions to His disciples – to us as well.  He gives them a new command.  John 13:34 – A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Continue reading
