Please – Don’t Worry About Tomorrow

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

fullsizeoutput_ffeThe 2016 elections are over (even though some are still talking about it). The 2018 mid-term elections have almost concluded (the are still counting in Florida and in other places). Your candidate either won or lost – your opinion was either in the majority or the minority on the questions on the ballot. You may agree or disagree that our nation is headed in the right or wrong direction. Many in the news and on Facebook have tried to project the future – with mixed projections. The market dropped dramatically right after the 2016 elections and has been on a roll for two years – reaching heights never before reached. It has been bumpy the last month or quarter – but we are still higher than anyone could have imagined. Some have predicted – or tried to predict the elections impact on the market. Some make a living looking into the future and trying to gauge how the elections impact the market.

Several of us who are closing in on retirement – say in the next 10 years or so – naturally peek into the future to see what the climate will be as that day approaches. We look at things like the housing market – our debt – the Dow Jones – our savings – the cost of living – and on and on the list might go. Looking to the future is not a bad thing – it is actually a wise thing. Dave Ramsey has many suggestions about savings and retirement. Look up some of his ideas here. Continue reading

Don’t Be Anxious

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Don’t be anxious! Easier said than done. There are so many things that could make us anxious. The economy is one of them. For some – the market rising is a good thing – but so many are not invested in the market. For some – we might be nearing retirement and aren’t sure if we will be able to make ends meet. For some – we may have just lost a spouse and their pension and are having a hard time remaining where we are currently. I could go on and on – the economy could be cause for anxiousness.

Don’t be anxious! Easier said than done. There are so many things that could make us anxious. Our health is one of them. For some – we’ve never felt better. For some – we might be facing a disease that could threaten our life. For some – we might be currently limited in what we can do by our health issues. I could go on and on – health issues could be cause for anxious moments. Continue reading

Delivered From All Our Fears

Psalm 34:4

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

RayMcDWhat is it we are afraid of today? Some have expressed a real fear over the Zika Virus – and it is a scary thing for sure – especially for women who wish to bare children or are pregnant now. The Zika Virus has arrived on the shores of the USA most recently. The virus has come to the USA as infected mosquitos on U.S. soil have bitten some people. The medical community is telling us that it is doing all it can to combat this virus. Fear still runs rampant among some in our southern states – and maybe for good reason.

What is it we are afraid of today? The economy shows some signs of recovery while the number of people out of work seems to be increasing. People are wondering when they should pull their money out of the stock market as some say a crash is near. No one really knows. Being able to pay our bills – especially in retirement – is a real concern for some. Continue reading

Rejoice In The Lord Always

Philippians 4:4

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Photo on 7-6-16 at 3.42 PMI know people that always seem to see the bad side of things. The market just hit all-time highs and I’m reading people who think a crash or correction is just around the corner. I’ve read articles on the Internet and listened to the advice of my financial advisor and feel safe that the market will not act like 2008. By the way – I agree that we should take precautions about a down turn in the market. I’ve taken precautions with a sell price on my stocks if they drop.

I know people that always seem to see the bad side of things. While listening to my favorite sports radio channel – you’d think the Orioles were in last place the way some people talk about their troubles and how they MUST trade for a starter. They’re actually in first place by two games and with a little improvement from their current starters – they just might finish in first. I happen to believe they will do better by keeping their young players and playing out this season with what they have currently in house. We’ve been burnt the last few years by trading young promising players for rentals! Continue reading
