Seek FIRST His Kingdom

Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

What do you do – first thing in the morning – at home? Most of us have some routine in the morning. Some items might be brushing our teeth – taking our vitamins – taking a shower/bath – dressing for the day – combing our hair – putting on our face (for the women) – eating our first meal of the day.

What do you do – first thing in the morning – at work? Most of us have some routine when we get to work. Checking overnight communications – email – text – calls/messages – preparing for meetings – preparing for customers – getting the stock in order – cleaning the workplace from any mess left by the previous shift. In my part-time job – I set up the coffee station (even though I am not a coffee drinker) – setting and printing the tee-sheet for the day – printing scorecards for games that day – printing the tee-sheet with bag storage – counting the cash drawer – checking the bathrooms (men’s and women’s) – prepare some pop corn for the members – and if time allows – helping to set up carts for the morning (I work in the pro-shop at The Golf Club at South River.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah – what about our morning devotions? Spending time seeking the Lord – through prayer and Scripture reading – is a great way to start any day. We have started reading a chapter of the Bible each day together at Trinity. So far – if you joined us at the end of 2023 – we have read Luke – Matthew – Acts – 1 Corinthians – 2 Corinthians – Galatians – Ephesians – Philippians – 1 Thessalonians – and 2 Thessalonians. In May we will dive into Colossians – 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy and others. I’ve been posting something everyday for our reading that day on Facebook – X (formerly Twitter) – Instagram and Truth Social. You can join us any time.

What do you do for your devotional time? I find that 15-30 minutes – first thing in the morning – helps to set my day up right. Prayers and time with Jesus throughout the day also helps me. There are a number of devotionals out there. Our Daily Bread is a good one. Crosswalk is another good one. The Upper Room is another one that I have used. Currently – I use the Bible.com – which puts out devotional readings and also have plans you can sign up for and they will help to remind you each day if you set it up to remind you. What devotionals do you use? Share them in the comments section so others can try them.

Seeking Jesus first in our day and in our life is so very important. God needs to be our priority in life. Serving Him and finding ways to share our testimony with others should be something we focus on daily. How are we doing?

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way!
